Kitchen Remodel (Part 2)

Our project is coming right along!  Keep in mind there is still a couple of major items to wrap up.  We still need to paint and add backsplash tile.  We haven't even shopped for colors yet, but now that the kitchen is functional again we can start to work on that.  The countertops and kitchen sink allow us to live normally again, and we LOVE IT!

With just a touch of brown, this small-grained black granite is just what we wanted.  Also, it's titled "Black Pearl".  What's not to love about that!  Arrrrgh!

The girls are most excited to get bar stools so they can use the new bar area!  Its cool how a simple change of width and surface could create much more space than we originally had.

Now it's off to the tile store to figure out how we are going to cover that midriff.

Kitchen Demolition

Kitchen In Progress (part 1)

For more than 8 years I've waited for this project!  It's finally time for my new kitchen!

We replaced appliances already in anticipation of the project.  Oh, and Brandon got a bit hasty this summer with scraping the sand-textured green paint off one wall (see pictures 2 & 3 below).  Here are the "Before" photos:

Now, here are the progress photos (all looking north).  We tore everything out on Friday, and Saturday Brandon and Dad spent the day prepping the floor and beginning the hardwood install!

Before the project could begin in earnest, there was some electrical and lighting to change.  Also, in order to help the full project along, Brandon began removing tile and preparing the walls so the new cabinetry and flooring could go in quickly.
On Demolition Day (Friday) we moved the appliances out and prepared for destruction.  Still to do at this point was a bit of sanding of the walls and ceiling and re-texturing all the surfaces that would not be covered with cabinetry.
The new flooring looks a little out of place as the first new thing installed, but it's setting the tone for what is extremely exciting for us!

We'll share more soon as we get everything installed and functional again... in the mean time I've got a meal to prepare...without a kitchen.
